Grayton Beach Rags to Riches Regatta
The Rags to Riches Regatta is a 40-year sailing tradition where 30A locals and visitors gather to cheer on teams as they navigate 16-foot catamarans in a race from Grayton Beach (originally known as the “rags” side of town) to Seagrove (also known as the “riches” neighborhood).
Race starts in Grayton Beach and ends in Seagrove. July 1, 7am
The race will benefit South Walton Artificial Reef Association (SWARA) and their mission to protect and preserve our local marine resources.
A glowstick necklace for the kids? Again?
INSTEAD: A SAFER WAY TO HAVE FUN WITH SPARKLERS
- Using a plastic cup as a sparkler shield is a good idea. Don’t let the spark get too close to the cup. Or use a round piece of pre-decorated cardboard. Or wear a glove.
- Stick the handle end of a sparkler in a carrot. The bigger handle is now easy to hold and it stays cool.
- Sparklers stay hot for a long time after they burn out. Keep a bucket of (white) sand or water nearby to dump each used sparkler.
Sparkler contests! Recite as many state names and/or capitals as you can, or see who
can count the highest before the sparkler burns out. Give out festively
decorated cupcakes as prizes (stick a sparkler in a cupcake).
