A storied past.
Rosemary Beach is more than just a perfect 30A vacation spot. It’s a modern community with a fascinating history that dates back centuries. The town was established in 1995, but the land it occupies has a lengthy and prosperous past. The Creek Native Americans were the earliest inhabitants of the region, residing in tiny coastal villages.
These villages were close to sources of fresh water, which was crucial for survival. However, they were eventually displaced from the region by the Spanish, who took ownership of the land. The British later regained control of the area, and following the Revolutionary War, it became a part of the United States.
In the post-Revolutionary War era, William Bythewood recognized the potential of the beautiful coastal area. He established a trading post and built his home in 1831, laying the foundation for Rosemary Beach’s popularity among tourists and fishermen.
Fast forward to the late 19th century, and you’d find Rosemary Beach booming as a resort hub. The hurricane in 1909 did leave its mark, but the resilient spirit of the community led to its reconstruction and resurgence.

A vision like no other.
Almost three decades ago, Rosemary Beach was about to undergo a complete makeover. The goal? To simply revitalize the sense of community and neighborhood pride.
By following New Urbanism and Traditional Neighborhood Development principles, and taking inspiration from other classic beachside communities, the visionaries also sought to prioritize convenience for residents.
Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, famous urban planners, imagined a town crafted for easy walking, where practically everything is reachable within a 10-minute stroll from the heart of it all.
The town was designed to be completely accessible by foot or bike.
