Founded on timber mills along Choctawhatchee Bay in the 1840s, tourism “took off” in 1884 with the arrival of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. Dune Allen officially became a community in 1946 and earned its reputation as the “local’s beach.” When the Allen family opened it to families in 1958, would you believe there was just one house on the south side of Scenic 30A?
