About Grayton Beach
The art of nature. The nature of art. Of course, Grayton Beach is known for its pristine beaches. But the town itself? The laid-back charm developed over decades, alongside a delightful mix of beach cottages, local art galleries, and low-key eateries serving fresh seafood and Southern specialties.
Part bohemian vibes, and part natural beauty, Grayton Beach is proud to be one of the most unique communities along 30A. Known for its quirky, artistic atmosphere and friendly locals, it’s also one of the oldest and most storied spots on the coast. Got your attention?
LOCATION, LOCATION, PERFECTION.
Between Blue Mountain Beach and Seaside, Grayton Beach rubs elbows with a state park! Yep. Grayton Beach is bordered on three sides by Grayton Beach State Park. This prime location, along with nearby Western Lake, makes it a nature lovers magnet. Plus, it’s the only spot where local fishing guides can beach-launch, allowing you to hop on a fishing charter straight from the sand. How cool is that?
GOOD EYE, SWEET BUY.
At the turn of the century, Grayton Beach was vying to be the go-to vacation spot for families from Northwest Florida and Alabama. But the journey was a challenge. No bridges over the Choctawhatchee River! And only sandy trails!
In 1913, W.H. Butler and his son, Van, made the trek from DeFuniak Springs and became the village’s biggest champions. Originally from the Midwest, W.H. was eyeing a resort at Phillips Inlet but found Grayton Beach’s land for half the price. So, he bought most of what is now Grayton Beach. Sweet buy!
A QUIRKY, RUSTIC CHARM.
Grayton Beach radiates a fun, artistic, and laid-back vibe, full of rustic charm and community spirit. And it’s not just families that flock here. Solo travelers and adventure-seekers too. Plus artists, musicians, and chefs, or anyone who wants to escape convention and live the beach lifestyle. With vibrant art galleries and the iconic Red Bar, a funky dive bar, Grayton Beach is brimming with life and character, truly one of a kind! Its unofficial motto? “Nice Dogs, Strange People.” There’s even a Grayton Beach Surf Club. Learn from the pros, unless you’re too cool for summer school.
PARK IT!
Yes, Grayton Beach consistently ranks among the most beautiful and pristine beaches in the United States. But exploring its soft sand is only part of the story. Grayton Beach State Park, a nationally ranked nature wonderland, bursts with diverse ecosystems like pine flatwoods, coastal scrub, and dunes. And with Western Lake at its side, it’s a hotspot for kayaking, paddleboarding, and hiking through coastal dunes and pine forests. So very nice!
