John-Mark Gleadow
John-Mark Gleadow, an artist from Delaware, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the University of Delaware in 1998. He has been a full-time artist since then. Before college, his only formal art training was in elementary school art classes. Initially nominated to attend West Point in 1994, he chose to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Delaware. However, his passion for design led him to switch to a career in art. Although he considered Graphic Design, he ultimately majored in painting after excelling in an introductory painting class, where his final project was sold in a Washington, D.C. gallery.
Gleadow’s early artistic influences included Rene Magritte, Salvador Dali, and Vermeer. He admired technical proficiency in oil painting combined with original and surreal themes. His work often resembles photographs but depicts scenes that are impossible in reality, such as a portrait of a child appearing to emerge from a painted frame. His precise technique and imaginative subjects captivate viewers and bring a lifelike quality to his art.
Gleadow’s work is featured in numerous collections across the United States. In 2004, he received an Emerging Artist’s Grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts and won the Best Figurative Work award at the Rehoboth Art League’s Annual Member’s Fine Arts Show. In 2005, he was offered a Fellowship by the Savannah College of Art and Design to join their Masters of Fine Arts program.

Simon Kenevan
Born in London in 1963, Simon Kenevan moved with his family to the south coast of England during his childhood. He cherishes memories of those early days, describing himself as a free spirit who enjoyed running barefoot on the sand and climbing trees. After his parents separated, Kenevan developed a sense of independence that has influenced his passionate and reflective painting style.
In 1982, after finishing school, Kenevan joined a fishing boat crew, strengthening his connection with the sea. He eventually saved enough money to purchase a 14-foot rowing boat, fulfilling his desire to work alone and connect with nature. This experience deepened his appreciation for the sea, sky, and wind, and although art was not initially a significant part of his life, the solitude of his work led to introspection and laid the groundwork for his future artistic career.
Over time, Kenevan began to express his experiences through art, discovering a remarkable talent. In 2003, he moved to the USA, where he encountered the “Sublime movement,” a group of 19th-century painters inspired by North America’s diverse landscapes. This movement greatly influenced his artistic journey. Kenevan feels a spiritual connection to the landscape, similar to these artists, and strives to infuse that divine inspiration into his work.
