STAY IN Blue Mountain
About Blue Mountain Beach
A mountain of fun! Although it may be quieter, Blue Mountain Beach is still packed full of charm and personality. Sitting at South Walton’s highest point, 65 feet above sea level, it’s both pretty and pretty chill. And despite the “mountain” in the name, no need to pack climbing gear. This laid-back neighborhood offers stunning views, fewer crowds, and all the coastal fun you can handle.
Start your day biking from Big Daddy’s Bike Shop, explore art at Justin Gaffrey’s gallery, or cool off with ice cream at Blue Mountain Creamery. The fresh Gulf seafood at Red Fish Taco is worth a visit or three, and Basmati’s Asian Cuisine? One-of-kind! Whether eating some of the best food on 30A (trust me on this one!) or exploring local art, you just may find yourself on the top of 30A. Literally and figuratively.
65 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL.
Since it sits at the highest elevation point along Florida’s entire Gulf Coast, finding Blue Mountain Beach won’t be a problem, right? Well, at just 65 feet above sea level, don’t count on it! Resting peacefully between Grayton Beach to the east and Dune Allen Beach to the west, this sleepy beach town is a bit secluded. And while you may not marvel at its “towering” dunes, you’ll definitely appreciate the lack of crowds.
A MOUNTAIN OF A TALE!
Have you heard the one about the pirates mistaking Blue Mountain Beach’s dunes for mountains? No? Well, this one’s a bit tamer: In the early 1900s, three families made this coastal gem their home. Arthur Draper settled by Draper Lake, while Herman Peterson and Ed Walline found their place between Big Redfish and Alligator Lakes. By 1948, Blue Mountain Beach officially made its mark with a plat map, with over 150 lots sandwiched between the lakes, the Gulf, and Old Blue Mountain Road. Safe to say, they picked a prime spot!
NATURE’S SLOW LANE.
Beauty meets tranquility. But haven’t we heard this before? Not quite. The Blue Mountain Beach vibe is all about relaxing with less of the hustle. Fewer crowds, no rush, just an unspoiled spot to soak in ocean breezes and let go of the everyday. Take lots of beach strolls, filling your camera along the way. For an otherworldly experience, it’s time to truly unwind and savor the mountain- I mean moment. Enjoy!
LAKES, DUNES, AND GULF VIEWS.
Blue Mountain Beach. More than just a perfect place for a beach day. It’s also home to stunning coastal dune lakes like Draper and Big Redfish, surrounded by lush trails, and adored by outdoor lovers. After fishing and paddling these peaceful lakes, see if you can find the highest dunes! Although you may not be allowed to climb‘em, you’ll have no problem admiring them.
